ASES Research Grant

About this program

The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) offers seed/start‑up research grants to encourage new investigators and support promising orthopaedic research in shoulder and elbow surgery, awarding up to $20,000 (or $10,000 for Candidate/PJI grants) for projects of 12–24 months; awards do not cover indirect costs, travel, or PI/co‑PI salary. Applications require a signed cover page and institutional approvals, a formatted research plan, budget and biosketches, and IRB/IACUC approval if applicable, with semiannual financial reporting (50% of funds must be spent before the next payment and 10% withheld until final reports). An orthopaedic surgeon must serve as PI or co‑PI; Ph.D. or D.V.M. investigators may serve only if appointed in an orthopaedic department and with a surgeon co‑PI (department chair letter required). PI must be based at a North American institution; residents/fellows and investigators previously NIH R01‑funded as PI are ineligible, and only one ASES research grant per institution and one submission per PI are allowed annually.
