Athelstan Spilhaus Award

About this program

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) awards the annual Athelstan Spilhaus Award to individuals who significantly enhance public engagement with Earth and space sciences by conveying their excitement, significance, and beauty. Nominations (peer or self) are accepted each year from 5 January to 2 March; nominators must be active AGU members and all parties must comply with AGU professional conduct and conflict-of-interest policies. Eligible nominees may be early-, middle-, or experienced-career scientists, and selection focuses on quality and impact, reach to broad or traditionally underrepresented audiences, and originality; recipients receive an engraved award, recognition at AGU’s annual meeting, and two Honors Reception tickets.
