Aubrey Hickman Award (SEMPRE)

About this program

The Aubrey Hickman Award, offered biennially by the Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research (SEMPRE), funds and promotes original, previously unpublished research in music education and/or music psychology with a prize of £1,000 awarded to the best paper submitted to the Society’s conference as judged by a panel. Selection is based on research quality, significance, originality and clarity, and the winning contribution must make a significant advance in knowledge or understanding. Eligible applicants are postgraduate researchers or early career researchers (normally within two years of receiving their doctorate) who submit an extended abstract of 2,000–3,000 words to the Conference Secretary and normally provide the name of an academic referee. If awarded, the full paper (6,000–8,000 words) must be offered first to one of SEMPRE’s journals (Psychology of Music, Music & Science, or Research Studies in Music Education), and recipients are expected to provide a brief report of research outcomes for the SEMPRE website.
