Award for Research in Psychiatry

About this program

American Psychiatric Association’s Award for Research in Psychiatry (originally the Hofheimer Prize) honors a single distinguished contribution, a coherent body of work, or lifetime achievement that has substantially impacted the field; the recipient receives $5,000, a plaque, and delivers an award lecture. Eligibility is limited to U.S. or Canadian citizens, and nominations must be submitted by an APA member who is not on the Award Committee. Nomination materials—letter of recommendation summarizing the nominee’s research accomplishments in a specific area or coherent theme, a summary statement on the work’s principal theme and scientific implications, the nominee’s CV, and bibliography—should be emailed to aparesearch@psych.org with the award name in the subject; deadline is September 1, notification in January, and presentation at APA Convocation or the Annual Meeting.
