Award for the best undergraduate dissertation in medieval archaeology

About this program

The Society for Medieval Archaeology invites annual submissions for the best undergraduate dissertation making an original contribution to medieval archaeology (c. AD 400–1600), open to dissertations submitted to universities in the United Kingdom or Ireland. Each institution may nominate one dissertation from a student who completed their degree in the previous academic year; eligible entries must address medieval archaeology within the stated period. Submissions should be emailed as a PDF to the Awards Officer (steve.ashby@york.ac.uk) and are initially read by Dr Steve Ashby, with shortlisted entries also reviewed by a Society Council member. The winner receives one of the Society’s recent Monographs (chosen by the winner) and £100, while other shortlisted candidates are commended.
