AWS AI Call for Proposals — Advancing the Frontiers of Machine Learning (ARA)

About this program

AWS AI, via the Amazon Research Awards (ARA), is soliciting proposals to advance machine learning across a broad range of topics—funding development of open‑source ML tools and impactful research that uses AWS AI/ML services. Selected PIs may receive one‑year unrestricted gifts (typically up to $70,000 USD), AWS promotional credits (typically up to $100,000 USD), and training resources; budgets must be specified in USD and should not include administrative overhead. Applicants must follow ARA program rules and the proposal template (see FAQ), explicitly list the open‑source tools they will contribute and the AWS ML tools they will use (e.g., SageMaker, Ground Truth, MXNet), and proposals are evaluated on community impact, scientific quality, and extent of AWS service usage. Awardees are expected to acknowledge ARA support and to report publications, code/data releases, outreach, and periodic project updates to ARA.
