Barry Jonassen Award

About this program

The Australian Society for Fish Biology (ASFB) offers the Barry Jonassen Award (established 1999) to fund research costs for honours or postgraduate students working in freshwater fish biology or freshwater fisheries (including commercially important invertebrates), with annual prizes of $3,000 for the winner and $1,500 for the runner-up. Eligible applicants are first- or second-year full- or part-time honours or postgraduate students at an Australian or New Zealand university who are financial student members of ASFB. Applications must include the ASFB application form and a supervisor support letter (submit to awards@asfb.org.au); the same proposal cannot be submitted to both the Jonassen and Hall schemes in the same year and awarded funds may only cover direct research expenses (no administrative fees, indirect costs, or overheads). Closing date is stated as 30 April (decisions announced after the deadline with a formal announcement at the ASFB annual conference); inquiries can be directed to Hayden Schilling or Alexandre Siqueira.
