Basic Research Funding Opportunity (Cure SMA)

About this program

Cure SMA, a nonprofit that has invested over $82 million in SMA research to date, is issuing RFPs for basic research into SMA biology and for preclinical drug discovery aimed at generating new therapeutic candidates, including combination and muscle-targeting approaches. Funding priorities are set by an independent Scientific Advisory Board and Translational Advisory Council, and proposals are judged on scientific excellence and direct relevance to the Cure SMA mission; Cure SMA generally does not fund clinical trials but supports clinical-trial readiness, infrastructure, and participant recruitment efforts. Applicants must follow the current RFP priorities, submit via ProposalCentral, and will undergo peer review by the advisory boards; inquiries and eligibility questions can be directed to research@curesma.org.
