Beverly Petterson Bishop Award for Excellence in Neuroscience

The American Physiological Society awards the Beverly Petterson Bishop Award for Excellence in Neuroscience to an investigator demonstrating outstanding promise in neuroscience or neurophysiology, providing $20,000 plus reimbursement of the American Physiology Summit early registration fee; the awardee must attend the Summit to receive the award and the award is contingent on available funding and non‑deferrable. Applicants must be APS members in good standing for at least three consecutive years and hold a rank no higher than assistant professor (U.S. residency not required). Applications are submitted online and must include a description of current and future research, a statement of outstanding research, an NIH- or NSF-format biosketch, list of current/pending support, copy of first- or last-author abstract(s) submitted to the Summit, a letter of recommendation from a department chair/administrator/mentor, and two letters of support (one from an individual the applicant has not worked with); selection is made by a committee including CNS and NCAR section representatives.
