About this program

The Georgia Ornithological Society (GOS) offers the Bill Terrell Graduate Student Research Grant, providing one-year fellowship support (GOS may award up to $15,000 total per grant year; individual awards set by the Terrell Grant Committee) for graduate students conducting faculty‑directed ornithological research. Applicants must be GOS members enrolled in a masters or PhD program in FL, GA, SC, NC, TN, or AL, with first priority to students enrolled at Georgia universities or born in Georgia if enrolled out‑of‑state; applicants may not receive funding from both GOS graduate grants (Howe and Terrell) in the same calendar year. Funds may not be used for salary, tuition, university overhead, or other indirect costs, and priority research topics include ecosystem function, habitat use/management, bird and habitat conservation, listed species, and invasive species. Application (typewritten, ≤10 pages) must include project description, citations, itemized budget, other support statement, brief resume, and two reference letters (one from the directing faculty) submitted by November 15; selections are made by January 15, and grantees must submit a ≤3‑page final summary and present or submit results to a GOS venue.
