Biotechnology Regulatory Fellowship Program

About this program

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, with support from Schmidt Sciences and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, is launching the Biotechnology Regulatory Fellowship Program: a six-month, full‑time, in-person professional development fellowship that engages early-career professionals in horizon-scanning and development of regulatory frameworks for novel biotechnology products. Twelve fellows are selected annually to receive a stipend and participate in seminars, briefings with federal agencies, the White House, and congressional staff, and to complete a capstone project identifying products that lack existing regulatory pathways. Eligible applicants are early-career professionals from academia, industry, government, or civil society with relevant technical, policy, or regulatory experience and must be able to commit to the in-person six‑month term at the National Academies. Applications for the 2027 cohort open June 1, 2026 and candidates will be competitively reviewed and ranked by an appointed oversight committee.
