Bridging investments in abortion and contraception research

About this program

The Society of Family Planning offers rolling bridging grants to support completion or partial completion of U.S.-based abortion and/or contraception projects whose NIH grants were terminated after January 20, 2025; awards provide up to $100,000 per project for up to 24 months, with anticipated five awards in 2025 and five in 2026, and funds announced within one month and available immediately. Grants are made to tax‑exempt organizations on behalf of the named principal investigator; eligible terminated NIH grant types include R-series research and K-series training/career development awards, while non‑peer‑reviewed terminations are ineligible and other federal agency terminations are considered case‑by‑case. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and must include an online form, a 250‑word summary, a 2–3 page proposal narrative, budget and budget narrative (indirect costs permitted up to 20% of total direct costs), the final NIH proposal as submitted, and proof of tax‑exempt status; applicants involved in litigation should consult legal counsel and note subcontract tax‑exempt documentation rules.
