BSHP Postgraduate Fellowship

About this program

The British Society for the History of Philosophy (BSHP) offers a £4,000 postgraduate fellowship bursary for a single academic year (normally commencing in September) to support MPhil/PhD research or MA thesis work in the history of philosophy; the award is being offered bi‑annually from 2025 (next round 2026). Applicants of any nationality must be currently enrolled at a UK higher education institution or have accepted an offer to begin study at a UK HEI in the fellowship year. Eligible candidates are research MPhil/PhD students or MA students with a clear history‑of‑philosophy focus; applicants already holding full funding for the fellowship year are ineligible, while those with partial funding may apply. Apply by 23:59 GMT on 31 January with a CV (including modules for MA applicants), a 500‑word research summary, a 200‑word fit with supervisor/department statement, and referee contact details (referees must send a confidential reference); successful applicants who are not BSHP members must join, and applications from underrepresented groups are encouraged.
