Career Enhancement Fellowship (Mellon Foundation)

About this program

Funded by The Mellon Foundation and administered by C&S, the Career Enhancement Fellowship provides stipends up to $35,000 plus travel, research funding, mentorship, and a retreat to support outstanding junior faculty whose work broadens perspectives in the arts, humanities, and related social sciences. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents (as of October 2025), be considered in the third year of a tenure‑track appointment at their institution (with the award taken in the fourth year), teach in one of the designated fields (interdisciplinary work is considered), and have no more than two prior years on the tenure track at another institution. The fellow’s institution must supplement the stipend to provide full academic salary and benefits, the award is non‑transferable, and the 2027 application opens August 17, 2026.
