About this program
The Carter G. Woodson Institute at the University of Virginia offers a residential, 12-month Post-Doctoral Research Associate and Lecturer fellowship beginning July 2027, renewable for a second year. Fellows receive $53,000 in the first year, full-time benefits, research and travel support, and possible relocation assistance while pursuing research in African American and African Diasporic Studies. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. by June 15, 2027, awarded no earlier than six years before the December 1, 2026 deadline, and may be from any discipline in the humanities or social sciences. Fellows must reside on-site in Charlottesville, teach one course annually, participate in workshops, and present their research; citizenship is unrestricted.
