Challenger Society Travel Awards

About this program

Challenger Society for Marine Science offers Travel Awards to support postgraduate and fourth‑year MSc students who are members and based at UK research institutions to attend scientific conferences, cruises, or fieldwork, with awards of up to £250 for UK travel and up to £500 for international travel. MSc (4th year) students may apply for one award and PhD students may apply for up to two awards (combinations allowed); priority is given to applicants with an accepted paper or poster, applications must be submitted prior to travel and cannot be retrospective, and deadlines recur quarterly (15 Jan, 15 Apr, 15 Jul, 15 Oct) with approximately £1,500 available per round. The Society generally will not fund internal flights within Great Britain (excluding Northern Ireland) unless a reasonable exemption is indicated, and awardees must submit a mandatory travel report using the Society template before funds are released.
