Charles F. Richter Early-Career Award

The Seismological Society of America (SSA) awards the Charles F. Richter Early-Career Award—a $3,000 prize from the William B. Joyner Memorial Fund—annually (at most once per year) to recognize outstanding early-career contributions that advance seismology and the understanding of earthquakes. Nominees must be regular or honorary SSA members in good standing whose most recent academic degree was awarded no more than six years prior (extensions allowed for institutional family or medical leave); SSA Board members, member‑elects, and officers are ineligible. Nominations, due by 30 September to the SSA Secretary (awards@seismosoc.org), must be submitted by an eligible SSA nominator and include a ≤2‑page nomination letter, CV with bibliography, 2–4 supporting letters (at least two from outside the nominee’s current and degree‑granting institutions), and a signed nominator ethics disclosure form.
