Charles S. Falkenberg Award

The Charles S. Falkenberg Award, sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP), honors early- to mid-career scientists who have improved quality of life, economic opportunity, and stewardship of the planet through the use and public communication of Earth science information. Recipients receive a monetary prize (amount not specified), recognition at AGU’s annual meeting, and two tickets to the Honors Reception. Nominees must be within 15 years of their highest terminal degree or under 45 at the time of nomination; peer or self-nomination is allowed but nominators must be active AGU members and all parties must comply with AGU conflict-of-interest and professional conduct policies. Candidates are evaluated on scientific excellence and demonstrated contributions to using and increasing awareness of Earth science data, with clear documentation of an individual’s contributions when the work was collaborative; submissions are accepted annually from 5 January to 2 March.
