Charles S. Falkenberg Award

About this program

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) and Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) annually present the Charles S. Falkenberg Award to an early- to mid-career scientist who has advanced quality of life, economic opportunities, planetary stewardship, and public understanding through the use of Earth science information and information technology. Recipients receive a monetary prize (amount unspecified), recognition at AGU’s annual meeting, and two tickets to the Honors Reception. Eligible nominees must be within 15 years of their highest terminal degree or under 45 years old at time of nomination; peer or self-nominations are allowed but nominators must be active AGU members. Nominees are evaluated on scientific excellence and demonstrable contributions to using and increasing awareness of Earth science data, and all parties must comply with AGU’s conflict-of-interest and professional conduct policies; nominations are typically accepted annually (Jan 5–Mar 2).
