Chicago Folklore Prize

About this program

Offered jointly by the American Folklore Society and the University of Chicago, the Chicago Folklore Prize is an annual award recognizing the best book-length work of folklore scholarship published within the fifteen months prior to the April 1 submission deadline. Submissions are accepted January 1–April 1 and are typically made by publishers; eligible works are monographs only (no edited volumes or reprints), with hard-copy publishers asked to mail three copies to the AFS office and electronic publishers asked to email a PDF or download instructions to americanfolkloresociety@afsnet.org. A committee of folklore scholars (interpreting “folklore” broadly) selects the winner, who is announced at the AFS annual meeting and receives a modest cash prize and a certificate; authors should contact their publisher’s marketing department to request submission.
