About this program

The Children’s Literature Association (ChLA) offers the Diversity Research Grant to support research on children’s and young adult cultural artifacts concerning populations historically or culturally underrepresented or marginalized. Funds may support research expenses such as travel, materials, supplies, or publication subvention, with projects expected to contribute significantly to children’s literature scholarship and lead to publication.

Applicants must submit materials electronically between December 15 and February 1, including a research proposal of no more than three single-spaced pages, budget, timeline, and curriculum vitae. Recipients must be ChLA members before receiving funds, may not use the grant for degrees, theses, dissertations, textbooks, or pedagogical projects, and must acknowledge ChLA and submit a related conference proposal within two years.
