About this program

The Entomological Society of America's Chrysalis Fund awards grants to support K–12 educational projects (priority given to insect-focused work, with other terrestrial and freshwater arthropod projects considered), offering tiers from micro‑grants (<$500) to Regular ($500–$999) and Large ($1,000–$2,500). Applications for the 2026–2027 academic year open in March 2026 and are accepted during the annual spring window through June 1 (deadline June 1, 2026); proposals are reviewed by the ESA Education and Outreach Committee and awardees are notified mid‑September with funds typically delivered before October 1. Eligible applicants are K–12 teachers, educators, or program organizers; allowed uses include supplies, services, travel reimbursements, and compensation for personnel, while prohibited uses include work done prior to application, administrative/overhead costs, and expenses unrelated to project objectives; funded projects must be completed by July 31 of the year following funding and final reports are due by October 1.
