Education funding in this catalog is two different things sharing a label, and separating them saves time.
The first is education research: studies of learning, teaching, policy and assessment, funded by the Spencer Foundation and by the discipline's own societies. The second is money for educational activity, meaning scholarships, program grants and capacity funding aimed at schools and community organizations. Community foundations dominate that second group, which is why the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Noble County appear near the top. Their programs are restricted to their own service areas.

General awards and program grants outnumber research projects roughly three to one, so a researcher scanning this list should expect to skip a lot. The median award is $5,000 and the range is wider than any other discipline hub, because state agencies publish whole programs worth millions alongside society awards worth a few hundred dollars.
