About this program

The European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) funds the Clinical Research Awards (CRA) to support and encourage independent clinical research in cataract, cornea and refractive surgery, with the goal of improving patient care and fostering networking across the EU ophthalmic community. The programme is overseen by the ESCRS Research Committee and CRA Programme Lead Farhad Hafezi, follows a two‑phase application process (expression of interest then full proposal), and final submissions are scored by an independent review panel. Eligible applicants are individuals actively conducting clinical research in cataract, cornea or refractive surgery, particularly within the EU clinical community. Applications must be submitted via the ESCRS online form by published deadlines (if the form is not visible, applications are not open); further information, terms and past winners are available from ESCRS and queries can be emailed to clinical.research@research.escrs.org.
