Clinical Research Investigator-Initiated Awards (CRIA)

About this program

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s Clinical Research Investigator-Initiated Awards support Career Development Awards and Senior Research Awards addressing important clinical questions in inflammatory bowel disease through direct patient studies or analyses of large health-related databases. Awards provide up to $250,000 annually in total costs, including a maximum of 10% indirect costs, for up to three years, with funding contingent on agreed-upon milestones.

Applicants must be employed by eligible public, private nonprofit, or governmental health care or research institutions; international applicants are eligible. Senior Research Award PIs must be faculty at the Assistant Professor level or above with a strong record of funded clinical research, while Career Development Award PIs must be junior faculty with IBD research experience and generally within 10 years of earning a doctoral degree; pre-applications are due December 1, 2026, with full proposals by invitation due January 21, 2027.
