About this program

The Royal Engineers Association (The Sapper Charity) offers the McCabe Community, Unit and Branch Support (CUBS) Grant to fund ambitious community‑building projects for Regular and Reserve Royal Engineer units, REA Branches, Sapper communities, activity clubs and Corps‑connected organisations, with priority for tangible, discrete projects that strengthen cohesion, wellbeing, esprit de corps and adventurous training. Eligible applicants (UK and overseas REA Branches and unit‑level Sapper organisations) must apply online via The Sapper Charity website and ensure projects meet the charity’s objects; grants are not for individuals, running/maintenance costs, fees/licenses, travel/subsistence/accommodation, equipment hire, or items that should be fully MOD‑funded. Applications are reviewed by Group HQs then the Finance Committee, accepted until 30 November 2026 with quarterly assessments and payments in April, July, October and December; grants are claimed in a single payment and must be spent within 2026. Applicants must include a Unit/Branch contribution, demonstrate other funding sources have been explored, provide planning/quotes and early command engagement for major infrastructure bids, and supply acknowledgements and photos/articles if successful; Operational Tour Grants are available separately (up to £5,000 for deploying Units, £2,500 for sub‑Units).
