Conservation Grants

About this program

The Samuel H. Kress Foundation awards Conservation Grants to support professional art conservation work and the creation and dissemination of specialized knowledge relating to European art from antiquity through the early 19th century, funding projects such as archival and documentation initiatives, scholarly databases, exhibitions, publications, technical/scientific studies, and professional exchanges. Grants are competitive and awarded to organizations (U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofits, including U.S.-recognized supporting foundations for foreign institutions); the Foundation does not make awards directly to individuals, and treatment support is generally limited to works in the distributed Kress Collection (typically coordinated through the Kress Program in Paintings Conservation at NYU/IFA). Applicants must submit a Letter of Inquiry via the Foundation’s online grant portal during the Foundation’s grant cycles (LOI deadlines are typically in early March and September); organizations invited to apply will be asked to submit a full application with a detailed Excel budget, the IRS determination letter, CVs, and other supporting materials.
