Conserving Black Modernism

About this program

The Getty Foundation, in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, offers the $4.6 million Conserving Black Modernism grant program to support conservation planning, training, and storytelling for historic modern sites in the United States designed by Black architects and designers. Funding addresses long-term preservation challenges and strengthens recognition of Black contributions to modern architecture. Eligible applicants must propose projects focused on qualifying U.S. sites associated with Black architects or designers; applications are managed by the National Trust and typically open in late fall, with awards announced the following summer.
