CRI Lloyd J. Old STAR Program

About this program

The Cancer Research Institute’s Lloyd J. Old STAR Program provides $1.25 million over five years, plus up to 10% in additional indirect costs, to support mid-career scientists pursuing high-risk, high-reward cancer immunotherapy research with flexible, unrestricted funding. Applicants must hold an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent and a tenure-track position as an assistant professor for at least three years or an associate professor for no more than three years as of the January 15, 2027 deadline. Candidates must devote at least 80% of their time to research; there are no citizenship restrictions, but applicants must be based at eligible nonprofit institutions rather than for-profit organizations.
