About this program

The Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Foundation provides grants to organizations and individuals developing criminal justice initiatives for people with serious mental illness, including pre-arrest treatment, law-enforcement training, and specialized legal services. Eligible applicants must be tax-exempt organizations under IRS sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2), with programs primarily focused on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and administrative expenses limited to 7% of grant funds. Applicants must submit a letter of intent between November 1 and March 1; only invited organizations may submit a full application by May 31.
