Critical Needs Response Fund

About this program

Santa Barbara Foundation's Critical Needs Response Fund provides short-term, flexible, unrestricted grants to Santa Barbara County nonprofit organizations facing financial disruption from changes in federal or public funding or experiencing increased demand for services due to policy shifts, with priority for organizations meeting basic needs (food, housing, healthcare, safety, immigration-related support). Awards typically range from $10,000 to $50,000, are disbursed on a rolling basis until funds are expended, and applicants are notified within four to six weeks. Eligible applicants must be nonprofits operating three or more years that can demonstrate substantial federal or public funding losses since January 2025 or unanticipated service expansion due to policy changes, and must have a resiliency plan for financial sustainability (which may include mergers or strategic alliances).
