Damon Runyon Physician-Scientist Training Award

About this program

The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation offers the Physician-Scientist Training Award to support MD and DO physicians pursuing intensive cancer research training under an experienced mentor for four years, providing $460,000 in institutional funding for salary and research expenses. Recipients may also receive up to $100,000 in qualifying medical school loan repayment and a dependent-child allowance. Applicants must have completed residency and clinical training, be U.S. Specialty Board eligible, have no more than three years of postdoctoral laboratory research experience, and devote at least 80% effort to research; MD/PhD applicants and those holding NIH K awards are ineligible. Applications require an eligible mentor and institutional commitment to protected research time and are due December 1, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
