Dean E. Metter Memorial Award

About this program

The Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR) administers the Dean E. Metter Memorial Award, providing annual grants of $300–$1,000 to facilitate field-based herpetology research (priority given to work in Missouri); proposals are due December 15 with awards announced around March. Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students at accredited institutions and members of SSAR; past recipients of an SSAR GIH award are ineligible. Eligible costs are travel and field equipment only (no salaries, meeting travel, lab-only supplies, or indirect costs); proposals (≤1,200 words plus required attachments) must include a title page with a permit/animal-care compliance statement, background/objectives, methods, budget, brief résumé, and an advisor’s letter confirming enrollment, and must be submitted electronically to the Metter Award committee co-chairs.
