Decolonising Geomorphology (BSG grant)

About this program

The British Society for Geomorphology (BSG) invites applications for one grant of up to £5,000 to support projects that advance the decolonisation of geomorphology, including work in regions outside Europe and North America, interrogation of colonialism and racism in the field, and development of equitable engagement with Indigenous or other underrepresented communities via research, literature reviews, workshops, online writing retreats, or short courses. Applicants must be BSG members (individuals or collaborative teams), and where primary research is undertaken it must not be led by researchers from Europe or North America—researchers from those regions may only contribute expertise to projects led by Global South investigators; applications must include an environmental statement addressing mitigation of GHG emissions from travel/fieldwork. Eligible costs include travel, meeting room hire, data purchase and justified equipment rental; salaries, institutional overheads, bench fees, laboratory access charges and conference fees are ineligible. Successful applicants must justify requested resources, explain how additional costs will be met, and comply with BSG reporting, acknowledgement and open-access/data requirements.
