Design History Society Research Exhibition Grant

About this program

Design History Society offers an annual Research Exhibition Grant to support design history research that leads to or involves organising physical or digital exhibitions or displays, awarding up to £2,000 total per year divided among successful applicants with individual awards not exceeding £1,000. Applicants must be DHS members (independent or institutionally affiliated researchers worldwide), may submit only one application per calendar year, and applications are accepted year‑round from 1 January until funds are exhausted; submissions are anonymised and peer‑reviewed. Eligible costs include research travel, permissions/copyright clearance, materials, insurance, loan and installation costs, while unsuitable costs include equipment purchases, subsistence, higher‑than‑standard travel/accommodation, transcription and retrospective costs; applicants must provide written evidence the exhibition will open within two years and should not include CVs. Recipients must submit a 500–800 word report with a copyright‑free image within six months, acknowledge DHS with its logo, obtain approval for project changes, and may apply via the DHS website or by contacting designhistorysociety@gmail.com.
