Design Writing Prize (Design History Society)

About this program

Design History Society’s Design Writing Prize (2026) offers a £500 cash award, one year’s DHS membership (with Journal of Design History online access) and a free place at the 2026 DHS conference and gala dinner to promote and reward original, critically engaged writing on design across traditional and experimental formats. Applicants may be scholars, researchers, critics, practitioners or educators within DHS and the wider community; works may be published or in manuscript form and must be in English (or submitted with an English translation) and demonstrate originality, critical engagement and excellence. Submissions must not exceed 3,500 words, only one entry per author/editor/publication is allowed per calendar year, and winners must provide a 500–800 word report with a copyright-free image for DHS publication within six months. Entries require an entry form (available on the DHS website) and should be submitted by 11:59pm BST on 15 July to the DHS Senior Administrator (designhistorysociety@gmail.com).
