Devendra Lal Memorial Medal

About this program

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) awards the annual Devendra Lal Memorial Medal to an early- or mid-career scientist working in any Earth or space science discipline in a World Bank‑designated low- or lower‑middle‑income country in recognition of outstanding research. The honor confers Union Fellowship and an engraved medal, lifetime AGU membership, possible induction into the AGU College of Fellows (if eligible), an invitation to present at AGU’s annual meeting, and two Honors Reception tickets. Nominees must be citizens of and work in low- or lower‑middle‑income countries and are typically within 10–20 years of receipt of their terminal degree; peer or self-nominations are accepted annually between 5 January and 2 March, and nominators must be active AGU members, with all parties subject to AGU ethics and conflict-of-interest policies.
