Disaster Relief Grants for Congregations and UU Entities

About this program

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) operates a Disaster Relief Fund that provides grants to Unitarian Universalist congregations and affiliated non-profit organizations to support immediate and intermediate disaster-response needs such as building repairs, food, water, shelter, sanitation, health care, evacuation, return-to-school/work needs, and assistance for vulnerable populations. Grants prioritize on-the-ground relief and restoration (e.g., mold remediation, tree removal, facility repairs) and encourage partnerships with local organizations and coalition-building. Eligible applicants are UU congregations and affiliated non-profits in covenant with the UUA located in communities suffering a qualifying disaster—defined by significant loss of life, injury or displacement; major impact on congregational capacity; harm to vulnerable populations; heightened national media attention; or a FEMA major disaster declaration—and awards are not made to individuals or for training. Initial grants are generally limited to $5,000 during assessments with additional requests considered up to $25,000 total; congregations should contact their regional UUA staff or email DisasterRelief@uua.org to apply or request support.
