Dissertation Fellowship for Historically Underrepresented Persons in Anthropology

The American Anthropological Association offers one nonrenewable $10,000 Dissertation Fellowship for Historically Underrepresented Persons in Anthropology to support doctoral candidates during the dissertation-writing phase. The award also includes paid registration and travel reimbursement for the AAA annual meeting, and welcomes research in any anthropological subfield, particularly work addressing issues affecting minority populations. Applicants must belong to a historically underrepresented U.S. racialized minority group, have graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a U.S. GED, and be full-time anthropology doctoral students with approved dissertation proposals and degree candidacy before the award. Applicants must be AAA members, demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and financial need, and submit materials including a research plan, transcript, CV, employment statement, and recommendation letter by March 1, 2026.
