About this program
The Sontag Foundation’s Distinguished Scientist Award provides substantial independent research funding and community support to launch the careers of exceptional early-career scientists working to advance brain cancer research; since 2003 the Foundation has invested over $65 million in the program. The award aims to support bold, high-impact projects and connects grantees to a collaborative scientific community and mentorship to accelerate translational progress. Eligible applicants are early-career or “young” investigators in the brain cancer field who are prepared to lead independent research programs; the 2026 portal is closed and the next application window opens January 2027 (contact Program Officer Georgia Pinner for questions).
