Diversity Research Grant for Pre-Doctoral Candidates

The Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy (APA Division 29) awards two annual Diversity Research Grants of $2,000 each to pre‑doctoral candidates in clinical or counseling psychology to support dissertation research that promotes diversity; funds may be used for research supplies, training, or travel and are paid as a lump sum (recipients must complete IRS W‑9/receive a 1099). Applicants must be members of the Society and actively enrolled in a clinical or counseling psychology doctoral program conducting dissertation research that addresses diversity as defined by the APA. Required application materials include a 1–2 page cover letter describing how the work promotes diversity and how funds will be used, a 1‑page budget, a 5–10 page research proposal (or dissertation proposal of any length), one letter from the current direct supervisor/advisor, and one letter from the dissertation advisor or director of clinical training certifying active dissertation work; selection is based on fit with the grant purpose, scientific quality, feasibility, budgetary need, and publication potential. Awardees must submit a final accounting within six months of project completion, present or publish results in a scholarly forum, and return unspent funds after two years.
