Doc Rowe Award (non-print media award for folklore)

About this program

The Folklore Society's biennial Doc Rowe Award recognises distinguished contributions to folklore studies in non‑print media—film, websites, podcasts, TV/radio programmes, CD/DVD and similar—and carries the Award plus a £225 cheque presented at the Reception following the Katharine Briggs Lecture in November. Eligible works must have had original and initial publication in the United Kingdom or Ireland within the two years up to 31 May of the award year, and submissions may be made by authors or publishers (unsolicited entries accepted). Publications by the Folklore Society or produced wholly or partly by a member of the Society’s Council, and commercial reinterpretations of traditional material, are ineligible; three judges appointed by Council select the winner and may withhold the Award if standards are not met, with their decision final. Entrants must provide review copies—four hard copies where appropriate or password‑protected online access plus an archivable durable copy for the Society’s Library & Archives; for serial/episodic works up to four hours of material or a single representative episode may be submitted and hard copies will not be returned.
