Early Career Plenary Lecture Awards

About this program

The European Society for the History of Science (ESHS) selects three Early-Career Plenary Lecturers for its conference (renewed from the 2026 Edinburgh meeting), offering 30-minute plenary lectures (plus 15-minute discussion) whose papers will be peer-reviewed for publication in Centaurus; selected speakers receive waived conference fees, economy travel reimbursement, and three nights’ accommodation. Eligible candidates are early‑career scholars up to eight years post-PhD and must be nominated by ESHS members; nominations (submitted to the ESHS Secretary about 18 months before the conference) must include the nominee’s name, a one-page résumé, a one-page statement of innovative research and historiographical impact, and an abstract (max 800 words). An independent four-member commission appointed by the Scientific Board assesses submissions and, with attention to geographic, topical, and gender diversity, recommends three lecturers; selected lecturers must submit a 4,000–5,000 word manuscript to the Centaurus Editor-in-Chief at least two months before the conference.
