Early Career Scientist Award

The Meteorological Society of New Zealand offers the Early Career Scientist Award to recognise outstanding contributions by early-career meteorologists or climatologists in New Zealand, promoting atmospheric, weather and climate science and including a certificate and NZ$500 presented at the Society’s annual conference. Eligible work must have been completed within the three-year period prior to 30 September of the nomination year and may comprise significant peer‑reviewed research, an outstanding dissertation completed in New Zealand, or other publicly available scientific contributions demonstrating novel scientific, educational, social or economic impact. Nominees must be financial members of the New Zealand Meteorological Society and normally resident in New Zealand; nominations (self‑nominations not accepted) should be submitted to the Society awards sub‑committee with supporting evidence and the names and contact details of two independent referees. The committee may seek additional referee comments and will only confer the award if nominations of sufficient merit are received.
