Early Music Award

About this program

The American Musicological Society’s Early Music Award recognizes an outstanding, substantial single-author scholarly publication on music composed before 1550, including articles, books, and scholarly editions with significant editorial commentary. The recipient receives a monetary prize, certificate, and recognition at the Society’s annual meeting. Eligible works must have been published within the preceding three calendar years and in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish; the author must be an AMS member or a citizen/permanent resident of the United States or Canada. Self-nominations and nominations by colleagues or publishers are welcome through the AMS nomination form by April 15, with a digital review copy requested when available.
