About this program

Society for Systematic Biologists awards the Ernst Mayr Award to the presenter of the outstanding student talk in systematics at the SSB/Evolution Meetings, recognizing exceptional Ph.D.-level research; the prize includes $1,000, a certificate of distinction, and a two‑year subscription to Systematic Biology. Applicants must be current SSB members who are students or who completed their Ph.D. within the past 15 months (previous Mayr Award winners are ineligible); international applicants are eligible if they hold SSB membership. Submit an abstract via the Evolution conference talk submission page selecting the "regular" talk type by 15 April 2026; the Mayr Awards Committee will select presenters for the Mayr Symposium, notify participants by early May, and the winner will be announced at the SSB presidential address.
