ESICM Giant Great Grant (3G) — Advancing Rapid Infection Diagnostics in the ICU

About this program

The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), in partnership with bioMérieux, offers the Giant Great Grant (3G) — a single €300,000 research award (up to €100,000/year for 2025–2027, with €10,000/year retained by ESICM as overhead) to support a transformative project evaluating the clinical utility, integration and impact of rapid infection ID/AST technologies in ICU workflows. Projects should be hypothesis-driven and target priority high‑risk ICU cohorts (e.g., immunocompromised patients, HAP/VAP, bloodstream infections, post‑surgery/trauma), aiming to improve early appropriateness of empirical antimicrobial therapy, reduce antimicrobial consumption and resistance, and improve patient‑centered outcomes. Eligible applicants are ESICM members — young intensivists or senior investigators — applying with teams that have the necessary clinical expertise, data capabilities and infrastructure to deliver the proposed research; inquiries to Guy François at research@esicm.org.
