Esther Clinton Annual Prize Competition

About this program

The Society for Ethnomusicology’s Popular Music Section (PMSSEM) offers the Esther Clinton Prize to recognize the best article or essay on the ethnomusicological study of popular music published during the previous calendar year. The annual award includes a cash prize of up to $200 and may be withheld at the committee’s discretion. Applicants must be mid- or late-career scholars with a Ph.D. awarded at least 11 years before the submission year; articles may be any length and published in any venue. Applicants may submit multiple articles as PDFs to pmssemclintonprize@gmail.com by 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time on May 1, although prior recipients may not compete again.
