Expressions of Interest for R/V Falkor (too) Expeditions (from 2029 onward)

About this program

Schmidt Ocean Institute (SOI) solicits Expressions of Interest for collaborative, multidisciplinary expeditions aboard R/V Falkor (too), offering complimentary access to the vessel, onboard laboratories, instruments, and technical and communications support for projects in any region and year on the ship’s sailing map; EOIs and full proposals are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed biannually. Investigators may request up to the full berthing allotment (up to 25 science personnel) with a standard ship-time of 60 days (operations up to four months considered), and SOI may pair complementary projects to maximize vessel utilization. Applicants must provide their own project funding for salaries, travel, shipping and analysis (limited support available for certain equipment), commit to timely open-data and real-time expedition sharing, identify the territorial seas/EEZ for proposed sites, and note that voyages are contingent on diplomatic authorization. EOIs must follow SOI guidelines — written submissions up to 3 pages (.doc/.docx/.pdf) or a 10-minute video (.mp4/.mov/.avi/.wmv/.mpeg) — and be emailed to proposals@schmidtocean.org.
