FESSH Travel Award

About this program

FESSH (Federation of European Societies for the Surgery of the Hand) offers the FESSH Travel Award of up to €4,000 to support trainee and established surgeons who are members of national hand societies with full FESSH membership to undertake a clinical visit to a recognised European Hand Surgery training centre to advance skills and exchange techniques. Awards cover travel, accommodation and subsistence, are paid two-thirds before travel and the remaining one-third after submission of post-visit documentation, and the visit must occur in the calendar year following the award. Eligible applicants must live and work in Europe, be full-paying, resident or young members of a national hand society that holds full FESSH membership, have sat or intend to sit the European Board of Hand Surgery Diploma, and the host centre must be in a different country from the applicant’s residence and from where they trained; applicants may not receive the award more than once within five years. Applications require a 2-page CV with photo, host acceptance letter, two recommendation letters (one from the head of training for trainees), a one-page detailed visit programme, a 500-word personal statement and written confirmation to return funds if travel does not occur; final payment requires host confirmation of the visit, an expense report with receipts, and an illustrated poster for the FESSH archive.
